What is Reiki?
Reiki translates as ‘universal life energy’. This Japanese life philosophy takes us beyond the limitations of preconceived patterns and believes. It encourages exploration of life and its meaning in whatever direction our own experience takes us. It teaches responsibility towards oneself and the environment around.
Reiki is based on 5 guiding principles:
Just for Today:
Do not anger;
Do not worry;
Honour your parents, ancestors, teachers and elders;
Earn your living honestly;
Be grateful to life in all its forms.
Benefits: Reiki leads to a profound state of relaxation. It makes you feel more at peace, helps to reduce stress and so supports your immune system and your overall feeling of well-being.
It is not a painkiller. Reiki seeks to bring to the surface the causes of your symptom, not just to cure the consequences. It’s about long-term sustainable well-being, rather than a short-term panacea.
Reiki is also used alongside conventional medicine to help patients overcome pain and trauma from surgical operations, or side-effects of chemotherapy.
How it works: Reiki considers the whole human being by addressing body, mind and soul. The Reiki practitioner places his/her hands on (or just above) an area of the clothed body to allow Reiki to flow through the practitioner into the person receiving the treatment.
During a treatment, you’ll be lying down on a massage table (or floor mat) in comfortable clothes. The practitioner will put her hands on your body but without the pressure applied generally for a massage. This allows the energy to flow freely towards the areas of the body being treated.
What we offer: SPARK’s Academy offers both 1 to 1 treatments, as well as trainings to become Reiki Practitioners and Teachers. All our Reiki treatments may be done in person or at a distance.
